Accounting and Finance
Study Abroad is a great opportunity for you to stand apart from the crowd and add something unique to your CV. You can build your experience and study in a different University overseas (and still be taught in English). There are various ways of completing study abroad for Accounting and Finance major and joint students (degrees administered by Department of Accounting and Finance).
You can either:
- take the study abroad module (INT297) or
- take a period of study abroad in year 2 [BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance students only]
- take a period of study abroad in Michaelmas term of year 3 [not available to (Industry) students on a 4-year degree programme].
Please note: Even if you do complete a period study abroad, you will also still need to meet the specific requirements for your degree (in terms of the appropriate number of level 6 modules and appropriate subject coverage). Your Department study abroad advisor and your academic tutor will be able to provide guidance to help you with this.
INT297 Module:
The period of study abroad in this module takes place over the summer vacation (either during summer following year 1 or during summer following year 2). This module may be taken on a credit bearing basis (i.e., this may be included in your degree as a year 2 or year 3 module, assuming there is room in your degree).
Enrolment for the INT297 module will happen in April/May (TBC). The INT297 module is a level 5 module. To find out about how other AcF students found this experience, please see
Study abroad in year 2
If you are a current year 1 student on BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance degree, you may apply for a full year abroad (year 2 of your studies) at our partner Leipzig University. This full year study abroad would benefit from, a significant tuition fee reduction. There are six places available at Leipzig University which will be allocated on a competitive basis.
Study abroad in year 3
If you are a current year 2 AcF major or joint major student, you may apply for a term of study abroad (i.e., study abroad during term 1 (Michaelmas) of year 3 of the degree). Places are allocated on a competitive basis. There are six places available at each of the following institutions:
- Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU)
- Sunway University (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
- University of Kentucky
Please note: Study abroad is a great opportunity, but it may impact on the accreditation of your degree as you will not be in Lancaster to take key courses which are required for accreditation purposes. Whilst we will do our best to ensure you have comparable subject coverage whilst you are on study abroad, we cannot guarantee the accreditation of courses at other institutions by the professional bodies.
How do I apply?
If you are interested in study abroad, please ensure you sign up for and attend the various study abroad talks held during the Michaelmas term.

Business Analytics
When selecting your preferred destinations, it is worth checking the prerequisites needed for the courses you would like to take. Business courses are generally more quantitative than in the UK, and many require understanding of mathematics at a higher level than GCSE. Calculus is a common prerequisite. You will have to take and pass the Study Abroad Mathematics module offered by the Management School.

Economics
The Economics department of North American universities is usually located in the College (or Faculty) of Arts and Sciences, rather than in the College (or Faculty) of Business.
The content of Economics courses in North America is generally of a much more quantitative nature than in the UK, and A Level Maths is a prerequisite to be able to study abroad. Business Economics majors wishing to study in North America are strongly encouraged to take ECON 103 in Part 1.

If you are on one of the Study Abroad degree schemes offered by the Lancaster Physics Department then, subject to your academic performance, you will have the opportunity to study abroad for all of Year 3. You must confirm with the Physics Study Abroad Advisor at the beginning of Year 2 that you wish to take up your place on the exchange programme and begin planning for your year abroad. The following universities have been chosen to match especially well with the degree schemes offered by the Lancaster Physics Department.
